HUMC
2008 Appalacian Service Project
Dear HUMC ASP Team Friend,
I’m excited to be part of a Christian ministry, the Appalachian Service Project (ASP), where six youth work teams from Hockessin United Methodist Church will come together for a week this June to help provide low-income families of Dickinson County, Virginia-- some without running water or electricity-- with safer, warmer, and drier homes. It will be an exceptional opportunity for us to put faith into action, and our work promises to offer transformational experiences for both volunteers and homeowners alike.
Last year, nearly 15,000 ASP volunteers repaired more than 450 homes throughout Central Appalachian counties. In order to reach out to more families this year, the HUMC ASP teams still need to raise over $11,000 to properly equip, transport, and accommodate our 42 volunteers.
This year’s theme, “Not by force, nor by strength, but my Spirit” --Zechariah 4:6, reminds us that while donating a week of our sweat and muscle is very important to the success of the ASP program, it is only by the grace of God given to us by His Spirit that we can hope to truly improve the lives of the families in Appalachia. By letting the Spirit guide our donations, our prayers, our work in Virginia, we, too, can be changed for good. Please consider supporting our ASP teams.
For the third year, we are selling shares of stock in HUMC ASP teams. Shareholders will be paid BIG dividends. Each $25 stock certificate purchased will entitle you to receive a postcard from a team member on the road, introducing you to the family we’re assisting and the work being done; a special ASP token gift; and a post-trip meal and presentation (the date for which has not yet been set), thanking you for your support. Checks for stock purchases should be made payable to HUMC. All contributions are tax deductible.
Is the Spirit calling you to help with this important work? Consider purchasing a stock certificate today or sending a cash donation. You can contact Diane in the church office at 302-239-3030 for more information on how to do so. To learn more about our work, visit www.hockessinumc.org or asphome.org
Sincerely,
2008 HUMC ASP Team Member
